  • A flare up occurred overnight but was quickly contained
  • Dozer crews are aiming to have the fire guard built around the entirety of the fire today.
  • The resources committed by the Province have made a significant impact in containing the wildfire. SRD has 3 attack crews (24 ground firefighters), plus the County crews and firefighters brings the number to 41 ground crew.
  • 2 dozer units and the County dozer crews joined in making about 12 dozers on the line.
  • We are currently waiting for helicopters to arrive on site to do an aerial assessment.
  • An estimate of 2400 hectares have burnt.
  • By this afternoon it will be determined how significantly the rain has helped.
  • Please avoid the area. Crews require the roads and space to ensure they can work effectively and safely.
  • Please do not fly drones over the fire area. Drones are incredibly dangerous for air and ground crews.
  • The evacuation notice for everyone on Range Road 214 & 215, north of Township Road 674, and the prepare to evacuate notice for everyone else in the area between Jackfish Lake and the Athabasca River to the west remains in effect. The status will continue to be monitored.

These updates are and will continue to be available on the County website, Voyent Alert, and Athabasca County Facebook page. Thank you to all the fire crews, volunteer firefighters, Alberta forestry, and public works operators who are battling this fire.
