Update on Jackfish and Camping Lake fire. May 6th AM

  • Fire crews continued to hold the fire overnight and the situation remained consistent from yesterday. The fire began to slow overnight.
  • There are many resources currently on scene that have been supplied by Alberta Forestry.
  • The west fire guard continues to hold, and crews are working on the east guard.
  • Homes in the area have had sprinklers running on them.
  • Additional dozer crews arrived during the night and immediately began work.
  • Non-fire related traffic continues to be a problem in the area. Please avoid the area. Crews require the roads and space to ensure they can work effectively and safely.
  • The evacuation notice for everyone on Range Road 214 & 215, north of Township Road 674, and the prepare to evacuate notice for everyone else in the area between Jackfish Lake and the Athabasca River to the west remains in effect.
  • A fire flared up last night in the Wandering River area, but was extinguished within a few hours.
