Roads are a priority for Athabasca County. Each year the municipality directs resources towards the upkeep of existing roads, improving others and clearing snow from them in the winter.
Our focus is road safety. With over 2,400 kilometres of roads to maintain, we have to prioritize projects spanning from all over the County, both big and small.
Athabasca County has an online interactive map highlighting the work graders and plowtrucks do for road maintenance in the County, as well as how long since a road has been maintained.
**Please note we are currently experiencing connectivity issues with the graders as not all units are reporting correctly. We are actively identifying and correcting the issue.
Athabasca County has an online interactive dashboard that provides daily updates on Dust Control Progress.
The Agricultural Service Board has a Roadside Backsloping program that promotes the improvement of roadsides for water management and weed and brush control.
Interested landowners can approach the Service Board to request the County perform the work or they can complete the work themselves, receiving $1,500 in compensation per half mile of backsloping.
