Athabasca County Council passed a resolution adopting Policy 9140 in reference to Wildland Fire Suppression Costs.
Landowners are responsible for fighting wildland fires on land they are in possession of, or own. If County forces, or their agents, are required to suppress a wildland fire on private lands, then the owner may be assessed all or a portion of the costs incurred to extinguish the fire and reclaim the property.
Landowners should consider purchasing an insurance rider to provide wildfire control coverage. Please contact your insurance agent for details.
