Municipal Elections will take place in Alberta on October 18, 2021. The nomination period for those interested in running for Councillor is now open from January 1 to September 20, 2021, at noon.

 

Eligibility

Those interested in running must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • reside in Athabasca County on Election Day
  • reside in Athabasca County six months before Nomination Day

Voter Identification Requirements

Proof of identity and current residence is required to be able to vote in municipal elections. Voter Identification Requirements can be found here.

 

Municipal Senate Election and Referendum Proclamation 

The Alberta Senate Election is to be held October 18, 2021, in conjunction with the 2021 Municipal Election. The Alberta Senate Election is being held to select 3 Senate Nominees, according to the Alberta Senate Election Act, whose names are to be submitted by the Government of Alberta to the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada as a person(s) who may be summoned to the Senate of Canada for the purpose of filling a vacancies relating to Alberta.

The following questions are being asked of electors under the Referendum Act:

  • Should section 36(2) of the Constitution Act, 1982-Parliament and the government of Canada’s commitment to the principle of making equalization payments-be removed from the constitution?
  • Do you want Alberta to adopt year-round Daylight Savings Time, which is summer hours, eliminating the need to change our clocks twice a year?
