Athabasca County has a variety of seasonal/summer positions requiring skilled and semi-skilled workers for various departments.
The terms of the positions, dependent of weather, will be from May to October 2019 (Timelines and Dates will be adjusted to accommodate Post-Secondary Education Students – May to August 2019).
PUBLIC WORKS POSITIONS AVAILABLE
– Labourer / Light Equipment Operators
– Recreation Maintenance Workers
– Heavy Equipment/Roadside Mower Operators
– Heavy Truck Operators
Ideal candidates will have experience using/maintaining/operating light/heavy equipment (bobcats, quads, riding mowers, tractors, packers, dozer, hydraulic excavator), light/ medium trucks and heavy duty trucks, (pulling lowboys, pups, belly dumps), and various hand & power tools.
AG SERVICES POSITIONS AVAILABLE
Vegetation Management Technicians
Ideal candidates will have:
- an interest in identifying and mapping problem weeds, pests and disease;
- the ability to operate and maintain equipment including mid-sized trucks with trailers, RTVs and quad sprayers, and backpack/ hand sprayers;
- an interest in pursuing post-secondary education in agriculture, reclamation, agronomy/environment or related fields.
Roadside Mower Operators
Ideal candidates will have:
- experience operating tractors and mowers,
- experience identifying weeds and applying herbicide is an asset.
GENERAL SKILLS REQUIRED – ALL POSITIONS
• Ability to take direction & work effectively independently or with others;
• Good listening & communication skills with co-workers and the public;
• Commitment to the job: punctual, dependable and willing to learn;
• A valid Driver’s License (min. class 5) applicable to the position being applied for;
• The ability to work in a variety of outdoor elements;
• Physical abilities: to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds\physically fit;
• Ability to keep legible records;
• Mechanical skills are an asset.
