Fire Status Update – Advisory now in place

Please be advised that effective June 4, 2019 Athabasca County has updated its FIRE STATUS to a:

Due to the recent weather conditions, Athabasca County has down-graded the existing FIRE BAN to a FIRE ADVISORY for the area of the County outside of the Forest Protection Area.

Although the fire ban has been lifted, there are still some very dry areas in the County. Please continue to be diligent with your campfire and Off-Highway Vehicle use.

The use of safe wood campfires and permitted burn barrels are allowed. Charcoal briquettes as well as propane stoves and barbecues are also allowed. The issuance of fire permits will be limited to essential burning only.

The ADVISORY will remain in effect until conditions improve.

Athabasca County urges everyone to use caution when working or driving in grassy areas and be mindful of debris collecting on hot exhaust which could result in the ignition of a fire.
