Employment Opportunity – Payroll & Accounting Coordinator

Athabasca County is currently accepting applications for a full-time, permanent, Payroll & Accounting Coordinator to join our team in the County of Athabasca.

The Payroll & Accounting Coordinator is responsible for the accurate completion of all full-cycle payroll processes and reconciliations and aids with a variety of routine and non-routine accounting duties, ensuring accuracy and compliance with existing guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Full cycle payroll processing, including collecting and verifying timesheets, calculating wages, ensuring accurate deductions and withholdings, status changes, tax changes, retroactive adjustments, special pays.
  • Process CRA remittances, T4s, and reconciliation of all general ledger accounts related to payroll.
  • Administration of the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP) for eligible employees, and all County insurance accounts.
  • Maintenance of accounting codes and Capital Asset Ledger.
  • Assist with year end working papers, internal and external audits, and identifying and resolving discrepancies.

The ideal candidate will possess a post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting or finance and a minimum of 3 years of full-cycle payroll and accounting experience with a solid understanding of principles, procedures, and regulations.
