The Government of Alberta will be funding 75 per cent of the cost for the replacement of a County bridge culvert thanks to the Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program (STIP) grant, which supports municipalities in rehabilitating or maintaining critical infrastructure to increase opportunities for economic development, enhance safety, and improve mobility.
Late last year County administration submitted an application to Alberta Transportation requesting STIP funding for Bridge File 70502, located on TWP RD 642 east of the community of Meanook. The bridge culvert replacement is expected to cost $750,871, of which a maximum of $563,153 will be paid through the STIP grant.
Administration is working with Alberta Transportation to formalize the funding agreement before undertaking the work. Construction is expected to begin in late fall 2022 and be completed by early 2023.
