Thinking about running in the upcoming Municipal Election? Here are some things to consider:

Under the MGA, elected officials have the duty to:

• Participate in council meetings, committee meetings, and meetings of other bodies you are appointed to by Council.

• Participate in developing & evaluating the policies and programs of the municipality.

• Consider the welfare & interest of the municipality as a whole.

• Bring to Council’s attention anything that would promote the welfare or interests of the municipality.

• Obtain information about the operation or administration of the municipality from the CAO.

• Keep in confidence matters discussed in private at Council meetings until discussed at a public meeting.

Eligibility to run for Municipal Council include:

• Must be at least 18 years of age on nomination day.

• Must be a Canadian citizen.

• Must have been a resident of electoral division of Athabasca County for which you intend to run for the six months preceding nomination day.

Nomination period for those interested in running for Councillor will be open from January 1, 2025, to September 22, 2025.

Athabasca County Municipal Election is on October 20, 2025.
