Athabasca County reminds residents that moving snow across municipal roads is not permitted.
Why? Using equipment to remove snow across municipal roads into the opposite ditch is not only against subsections 1(i), 2(i) and 3(i) of County Traffic Bylaw 10-2009 but can also create a safety hazard for drivers.
Windrows left by moving snow across roads can freeze and create ridges on the driving surface. When a vehicle goes across these ridges, contact between the tires and the road is affected and the driver can lose control.
Should an incident occur as the result of improper snow removal, property owners can be held liable. Help us keep our municipal roads safe by not pushing snow across them.
