Athabasca County Fire Advisory in Effect – August 2, 2024

In accordance with Athabasca County Fire Services Bylaw 015-2023 section 8, a Fire Control Order is now in effect for lands within Athabasca County located outside the Forest Protection Area.

With improved conditions across the region, Athabasca County is moving from a Fire Restriction to a Fire Advisory.

Under this advisory:

  • Fire Permits may be issued on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Fire Guardian.
  • Existing permits are reinstated.

As per the Fire Service Bylaw 015-2023 the discharge fireworks and exploding targets on public lands is prohibited. All open fires including but not limited to burn barrels, brush piles, smudges, grass/stubble burns require a permit. Permit requests are responded to within 5 business days and do require a site inspection.

This Fire Control Order comes into effect at 1 o’clock p.m. on the 2nd day of August 2024 and will remain in effect until amended or revoked by the proper authority of Athabasca County.
