2023 Modern Farm Woman of the Year

BIOGRAPHY

Casey Morey was born and raised on the family’s dairy farm in Rochester. She graduated from EPC. She had a highly successful showing and 4-H career, including numerous international awards and over $50,000 in post secondary scholarships as a result of her accomplishments.
She has travelled all several continents as a result of her cattle and 4-H involvement, including being on the Board of Directors for 4-H Canada, and represented Canada in Ghana.
Casey graduated from the University of Alberta in 2016 with a BSc in agriculture, majoring in Agriculture Business Management. She returned to the family farm in late 2016, purchasing property and starting her own beef herd.
In 2018 she initiated the Generational Transition process to become a shareholder in Northland Dairy Ltd. She became a 25% owner in Unique Stock farm, a division of Northland Dairy Ltd. In 2020 along with her parents and brother.
Casey grew a farm acreage in 2019 to 3000 arable acres. In 2021 she started the process of expanding her farming operation. Currently her farm is milking 400 Jersey Cows, shipping registered embryos around the world, and sending bulls in global AI Companies.

INVOLVEMENT IN THE FAMILY FARM

Casey is responsible for all areas of animal health on the farm, calf and heifer rearing management, as well as reproductive management on the heifer program.
Casey is the lead on the farm’s crop plan each year, deciding what and where crops will be planted, choosing and organizing all inputs related to cropping. She is also the lead on financial planning, as well as HR management, scheduling, and payroll.
Casey is responsible for all the DNA genetic testing and facilitating embryo programs.

CONTRIBUTIONS TO COMMUNITY

Casey has always made volunteering a priority. Since becoming a full time partner on the farm she has:
• Volunteered on the Rochester Ag Society for 3 years
• Assistant, then general leader of the DFJ 4H Multiclub
• 7 year volunteer secretary of Country Roads Holstein Club
• Member of Jersey Canada’s Youth Committee and annual Jersey Canada Conference Committee, being the chairman of the JC Conference in 2019.
• Event Coordinator for the Alberta Dairy Youth Show & Scholarship Program for the last 5 years.
• Inter-provincial Alberta representative & team coach for Alberta for the Western Canadian Classic Youth Program.

PERSONAL EFFORTS MADE

Casey turned down multiple job offers after graduating university and instead made the choice to farm to help her community.
While the Farm was expanding and the new barn was being made, Casey and her brother did all the plumbing in its entirety in the new barn. Together, they completed a huge amount of the concrete work, dug in all the manure and water lines, and installed all the interior walls, rooms, doors, windows and watering system for all the cattle. All this work was done by her and her family. Casey was committed to seeing this project happen while keeping costs down.
Casey took the lead in milking a makeshift system while the farm was waiting for the new equipment to be installed and the old equipment was pulled out. The use of the makeshift system was used for almost 6 months that took 6 hours to milk in the morning and night. This was all done while also working on construction of the new barn before the winter weather hit.
