Sue Crest

BIOGRAPHY

Sue was born and raised in rural Leduc and was very involved in the 4-H program. She showed her Purebred Holsteins all over Canada and the United States in her 12 years of involvement in the youth program.

In 1990 she married Rob Crest and they soon had two children, Chad in 1991 and Katelyn in 1993.

She became very involved in Skycrest Farm and her in-laws John and Vic Crest. Milking, training calves to lead, clipping and feeding calves were all things she had the skills to do and do well with the operation.

Whether it’s a haybine, swather, rake, baler, or combine she can run them all.

On the business side of things, Sue created a Skycrest webpage and facebook page that has helped get the word out about their family business.

INVOLVEMENT IN THE FAMILY FARM

Every day chores such as milking, feeding calves and raising a family are added to by other efforts to keep the farm as successful as it can be.

There is pride taken in the care for the cattle and they are always kept clean, tails washed and brushed. The attention to these details helps when international visitors stop by to look at the cattle or she decides to take them on the busy show circuit.

Sue is always helping in the fields, cooking, delivering meals to those family members working out on the land.

The farm yard is kept to a high level of upkeep due to the many hours Sue spends cutting grass, tending to flower beds, and maintaining a garden.

CONTRIBUTION TO COMMUNITY

Maintaining a connection to the agriculture community, the local community and her children’s schools has been important to Sue. She volunteered many hours as Rochester School and Edwin Parr Composite assisting to create their yearbooks alongside the students.

Other Involvements include:

• volunteering with her daughter’s basketball team
• being a 4-H leader for 6 years
• participating with area show committees
• planning one of the biggest Holstein shows in Canada in 2015

PERSONAL EFFORTS MADE

Family is #1 to Sue and with her contributions and leadership they work as a team. Farming over 2,000 acres and running one of the top dairies in Alberta is the result of their hard work.

Sue never gives up and puts great effort into everything she does. For this reason she is a great role model and is always teaching kids. Staying in shape isn’t a problem because she is always on the go!

In her off-time, Sue is an amazing scrapbooker and photographer and she has won many photo contests.
