Family School Liaison
The Family School Liaison Program is a free, client based and goal focused program provided by FCSS. The program’s goal is to encourage individual growth and development for personal well being. The program is designed to meet the social and emotional needs of children and youth who are experiencing difficulties. It provides support, encouragement, and ideas in a non judgemental, confidential, manner. The program is preventative and involvement is voluntary and intended to be short term.

What is the Family School Liaison Program?
It is a preventative, goal-based program designed to meet the needs of children and youth by helping them find solutions for difficulties they are experiencing. The Family School Liaison Program is a non-judgmental, confidential service that can include one-on-one counseling, group sessions, referral services and/or information.
What concerns does this program address?
School-based concerns: Classroom behavior, transitions to a new school, attention issues, etc.
Emotional concerns: Self-esteem, self-awareness, anger, anxiety, grief, depression, conflict, guilt, self-control, etc.
Social concerns: Relationships with peers, bullying, safety issues, life management, coping skills, etc.
Family concerns: Divorce/separation, sibling conflict, communication, etc.
Where does the Family School Liaison program occur?
Family School Liaison Workers meet with the students weekly at the school. Students are also able to request meetings at the FCSS office instead if they would prefer not to see them at the school; however, they would require transportation to the office meetings. The office is also open during the summers and clients are welcome to book meetings at the office during these months. In addition to in-person visits, virtual meetings can also be requested by students.

How do I get my child signed up for this program?
Referrals to the Family School Liaison Program come through your school counsellor or administration at your child’s school. If you feel your child would benefit from seeing a Family School Liaison Worker, please contact the school counsellor or administration to see if they feel this program is the best fit for your child.
