Athabasca County residents who were previously evacuated are now permitted to return home. The Highway 831 Fire has been classified as under control.
The evacuation order on Highway 831 South of Boyle has been downgraded to an evacuation alert at 2:00PM on May 9th, 2025. Residents who were evacuated and returning home should be prepared to evacuate within 3 hours if given an evacuation order. Crews will be going door-to-door to check in on returning evacuees in the evening. The list of addresses can be viewed below. The alert is only for residences that are within the previous restricted area which can be viewed on the attached map.
The State of Local Emergency for Athabasca County will remain in effect until such time it is no longer deemed necessary.
Further, power was interrupted to some homes for a period of around 24 hours, so please ensure you check on electrical appliances like fridges and freezers for spoiled goods.

Please note that smoke will still be visible in the area and ground crews will continue to be working in the area.
Highway 831 South of Boyle will be opened with restrictions at 6:00pm on May 9th, 2025.
Signage will be located on the highway indicating a change of speed limit, and direction to avoid stopping on the highway. Please obey any traffic signs or ground crews and drive with caution. This is considered a construction zone and enforcement will be on scene.
While this fire is now under control, Wildfire conditions are still listed as “Extreme” for the area, and a Fire and OHV ban remains in effect for Athabasca County.
