Hard work from ground crews, along with cooperating weather, continues to see tremendous progress on the Highway 831 fire. The fire guard is now 100% complete and work is being done to fully secure it. The fire experienced no growth today. Some fire resources and command staff are slowly being released as the incident remains stable. Fire operations will continue through the night, including putting out hot spots, mop up activities, and patrol of the fire permitter and evacuation zone.
Highway 831 remains closed south of Boyle to give emergency crews adequate space to work.
Community Re-entry is underway, with Emergency Social Service provisions concluding in Lac La Biche this afternoon, and hotel support concluded at 2:00 p.m. May 8th, 2025.
Athabasca County still has some residents under an evacuation order South of the Village of Boyle, requiring them to maintain a State of Local Emergency Declaration. The affected residences are listed below.
Given that the evacuation order has concluded and re-entry has seen no significant challenges, the Village of Boyle has rescinded the State of Local Emergency declaration.
While this fire is now held, Wildfire conditions are still listed as “Extreme” for the area, and a Fire and OHV ban remains in effect for Athabasca County.
Unless there is emergency information, the next update will go out in the morning of Friday May 9th, 2025.
