Athabasca County has received the following notice from Alberta Health Services:

There will be no physician onsite in the emergency department (ED) at the Athabasca Healthcare Centre during the following time periods. Though there will be no onsite physician coverage, Virtual Emergency Physician (VEP) coverage will be available for the times/days noted.

• 6 p.m., Monday, Aug. 3 to 6 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4
• 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4 to 6 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5
• 6 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 5 to 6 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 6

Please note that coverage may change based on available coverage and service advisories occurring at other VEP sites. The ED at your site will have the most up-to-date information. Signage will be posted at the ED door.

Nursing staff will remain in the department to assess and triage, while following the North Zone Emergency Department Service Disruption & Closure: Practice Guideline and work with the Virtual Emergency physician.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. EMS remains available in the community and work closely with the healthcare team to ensure residents can access emergency services.

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811 or visit MyHealth.Alberta.ca, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions.

Residents with concerns can provide feedback through our Patient Relations team. For more information, call 1-855-550-2555.
