In accordance with the requirements of Sections 692 and 606 of the Municipal Government Act, as amended, the Council of Athabasca County has scheduled Public Hearings for March 12, 2026 starting at 9:30 a.m.
THE PUBLIC HEARINGS ARE BEING HELD TO ALLOW PUBLIC INPUT ON THE FOLLOWING BYLAWS:
Bylaw 011-2026 – The proposed bylaw amends Land Use Bylaw 004-2019 as follows:
- redistrict +/- 1.74 ha (4.30 acres) of Pt. NE 36-71-17-W4M, as per Schedule “A” from Hamlet Residential (HR) District to Direct Control (DC) District; and
- regulate the uses described in Schedule “B”; and
- assign Council as the Development Authority for the uses and regulations decided upon for the lands identified in Schedule “A”.
Bylaw 012-2026 – The proposed bylaw amends The Wandering River Area Community Plan Bylaw 02-2013 as follows:
- include section 5.7: Direct Control Policies as per Schedule “A”; and
- change Pt. NE 36-71-147-W4M +/- 1.74 ha (4.30 acres) in the Hamlet of Wandering River Community Plan from Low Density Hamlet Residential to Direct Control, as per Schedule “B”.
Bylaw 014-2026 – The proposed bylaw amends Land Use Bylaw 004-2019 as follows:
- revising Section 2 – Agencies, by striking out and substituting text to include reference to the Development Authority Bylaw, the Subdivision Authority Bylaw and the Municipal Planning Commission Bylaw, as appropriate.
- revising Subsection 3.6 – Variance Provisions for Development Permits, to include reference to the Development Authority Bylaw.
There will be two (2) public hearings held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, for three (3) bylaws. The public hearings will commence at 9:30 a.m., or as soon as practical thereafter, and will occur in the sequential order. The first hearing with be for Bylaws 011-2026 and 012-2026, followed by the hearing for Bylaw 014-2026. Therefore, those wishing to participate should be in attendance at 9:30 a.m.
