New: Athabasca County Community Grants Program

On October 14, 2025, County Council approved a new policy called the Athabasca County Community Grants Program. The program brings together seven updated grants and introduces two new funding streams, creating more opportunities for volunteers, non-profits, and youth to access support for recreation, arts, culture, and heritage.

Grants Featured in the Program

  • Community Event Grant (formerly Grants to Organizations),
  • Youth Achievement Grant (formerly Youth Assistance Grant),
  • Youth to Multiplex (formerly Athabasca Regional Multiplex Swim Program Assistance),
  • Community Recreation Capital Grant (formerly Community Assistance Grant),
  • Community Hall Operating Grant (formerly Community Hall Assistance Grant),
  • Outdoor Rink Grant (formerly Outdoor Rink Assistance Grant),
  • Local Cemetery Improvement Program,
  • Sponsorship (new), and
  • Impromptu Requests (new).

Key Updates

  • Standardized Forms: One common application, budget, and final reporting form for grants,
  • Online Submission Option: Can upload submissions directly to the Athabasca County website,
  • Expanded Youth Funding: Youth can receive funding for progressing in activities related to academics, sciences, trades, arts, and culture,
  • Flexible Support: Project doesn’t fit existing categories? It may still be eligible under the Impromptu Requests stream, and
  • Increased Cemetery Support: Cemetery projects can receive up to $3,500 in funding.

Note: Projects approved before the launch of the new program will continue to follow the old guidelines, except final reporting will require use of the standardized forms.
