When shoveling your approach this winter, it is important for landowners to not push snow onto the roadway or across the road or right of way to the opposite ditch. Doing this may leave a ridge that becomes a road hazard and can block vehicle sightlines. Under the County’s Traffic bylaw, pushing snow onto or across the roadway may result in a $750 fine.
Instead, keep snow on your own property. When clearing your approach and facing towards the roadway, try to move the snow on the right side of your approach so that graders can push it away. Avoid piling on the left side to prevent a berm from forming across your entrance.
A little care goes a long way. Thank you for helping keep our roads clear from hazards and our neighbours safe this coming winter.
