Highway 831 Fire Update #9: Demobilizing Process Begins

The Highway 831 Fire is under control. Alberta Forestry crews will be working into next week to finish mop up activities and municipal forces will begin the process of demobilizing in the coming days.

Ground crews continued patrols overnight and checked in with all returning residents South of Boyle.

Please remember that there are speed restrictions in place on Highway 831 as it is considered a construction zone. For the safety of our ground crews, please obey signage and slow down.

An evacuation alert is still in effect for the Highway 831 area South of Boyle. These residents should be prepared to evacuate within 3 hours if given an evacuation order. Please note that smoke will still be visible in the area and fire crews will continue to be working in the area.

The State of Local Emergency for Athabasca County will remain in effect until the evacuation alert is rescinded.

While this fire is now under control, Wildfire conditions are still listed as “Extreme” for the area, and a Fire and OHV ban remains in effect for Athabasca County.
