Key Dates and Information

Election Day: The next general election for nine County Councillors will be held on Monday October 20th. 2025. Polls will open at 10:00 a.m, and close at 8:00 p.m.

Nomination Period: January 1st, 2025 – September 22nd, 2025.

Nomination Day Deadline: September 22nd, 2025, at 12:00 p.m.

Legislative Changes for the 2025 Municipal Election

On October 18, 2024, Municipal Affairs proclaimed the Municipal Statutes Amendment Act which made several amendments to the Local Authorities Elections Act (LAEA) and the Municipal Government Act (MGA). The amendments related to municipal elections came into effect on October 31, 2024.

Key Legislative Changes (Effective Oct. 31, 2024)

  • Automated Voting: Prohibited.
  • Nomination Period: Extended from Jan. 1 to Nomination Day (Sept. 22, 2025).
  • Campaign Limits: Alberta-wide limits introduced.
  • Third-Party Advertising: Registration and financial disclosure required; capped at $5,000.
  • Campaign Contributions: Union and corporate donations permitted.
  • Voter Identification: Vouching allowed only for address.
  • Recall Petitions: Validation responsibility transferred to Minister.
  • Electors Register: Municipalities must create a Permanent Electors Register in partnership with Elections Alberta.
  • Councillor Training: Orientation training is now mandatory.
  • Special Ballots: Expanded application eligibility for electors unable to vote at Advanced polls or on Election Day.

Eligibility

You can be an election worker if you are:

  • Eligible to work in Canada, and
  • 18 years of age or older.

Note: You do not have to be a Canadian citizen to apply

Qualifications

  • For all positions, prior election experience will be considered a definite asset.
  • You must be available to attend the mandatory training session.
  • Strong communication, mathematic and comprehension skills.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks and work long hours.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Ability to adhere to directions and standards.
  • Ability to learn in a short time frame.
  • Able to lift 15 pounds.

Election Worker Hiring

We will be hiring for election workers in August 2025.

  • Application must be completed and submitted to our office.
  • All positions will be paid a daily rate of $300 for Election Day.
  • Training is mandatory and will be paid a daily rate of $150.
