This past weekend featured our second class of members to complete their WUI-M (Wildland Urban Interface Member) training. The training was held in Caslan, and it hosted members from Caslan, Town of Athabasca, Colinton and Thorhild County. Members learned about aspects of wildland firefighting in urban interface areas, as well as structure protection. Instruction was provided by members from the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service, Athabasca County, and Village of Boyle.
Members practiced installing temporary sprinklers systems for structural protection, which is a key method of protecting threatened homes during wildfires. They also ran practice scenarios of engine operations using tactics proven during events that involve urban interface areas.
