County Campgrounds will reopen in July

The two biggest of Athabasca County’s campgrounds will reopen for campers on July 1, 2020.

The decision to reopen Forfar Recreational Park and Hope Lake Campground for overnight camping was made at the Athabasca County Regular Public Works Meeting on June 16, 2020.

Boat launches, beaches, group sites, day-use areas, and regular campsites will once again be open for public use at Forfar and Hope Lake.

All other County-owned and operated campsites will remain closed for overnight camping.

Additional public health measures will be in place for all users of the facilities:

  • Names and contact information of all users will be taken at the gate for the purposes of contact tracing. These names will be held for a period of two weeks and then destroyed.
  • All users will be required to follow social distancing guidelines for outdoor spaces.

Regular fees for the use of Hope Lake Campground and Forfar Recreation Park will be reinstated. Additional cleaning measures will be undertaken by the County according to provincial health guidelines.

No bookings are being taken at this time. The opening date for bookings will be announced at a later date. Bookings will only be taken by phone at the campgrounds and will be on a first come, first serve, basis.
