Community Directory

One of the greatest strengths of the Athabasca region is the sense of community we all have for our region. It is for this reason Athabasca County contributes to public facilities in our region and offers support to volunteer community organizations running community halls and those who help by volunteering with local organizations. There are a number of grants that can help you meet the long and short-term goals of your organization. Our region is stronger because of the work you do!

Plan of Service 2023 – 2027

The Athabasca County Library Board adopted a Plan of Service that is meant to serve as a working document to provide a focus and direction for the types of services offered to all those who use libraries in the region. A new Plan of Service is created every 5 years to ensure services are meeting the needs of residents. The document was developed using a new process recommended by the Public Libraries Services Branch.

Athabasca County partners with neighbouring municipalities to support recreational facilities in the region. Studies show that when we live active lifestyles we are healthier and more productive in life with family, work and in our communities. Recreational facilities are an important part of our region and help people choose the Athabasca region as the place to run a business or raise a family.

Athabasca Regional Multiplex Fitness & Aquatic Centre

The largest recreational facility in the Athabasca Region, it supports a range of traditional sports activities and community events under one roof. Designed as a multi-purpose community facility, the multiplex is also available for conferences, weddings, trade shows, graduations, parties and meetings of all sorts. There is room to accommodate groups of 36 in a small meeting room to over 1,000 for your social, sporting or cultural event.

The facility has a curling rink, skating/hockey arena, field house, fitness room, lounge two meeting rooms, multi-purpose room and a concession. All of these facilities can be utilized and booked by members of the public. As a funding partner in the facility, Athabasca County actively participates in a board that helps manage the facility.

In spring of 2019 an expansion including a new aquatic centre and fitness centre opened to the public. The expansion was funded by the Town of Athabasca, Athabasca County and numerous donations from community organizations, businesses and individuals.
