Three culvert replacement projects to commence
Athabasca County is pleased to announce it has secured $1,893,750 in funding from the Government of Alberta for three culvert replacement projects. Transportation and Economic Corridors Minister Devin Dreeshen informed Athabasca County on June 17, 2026, that the projects had been approved.
The projects are funded through Transportation and Economic Corridors’ Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program (STIP), which provides municipalities with funding support for the development and maintenance of local transportation infrastructure.
The three culverts requiring replacement range from 54 to 71 years old and have reached the end of their service life. Replacing them will help ensure local businesses and residents can continue to travel and operate safely and effectively within the community. The approved projects include:
1. Culvert Replacement Project at SW 31-64-21 W4M
Near Colinton, the structure carrying Range Road 220 over Pine Creek will be replaced. The total estimated cost for the project is $500,000, with the Province contributing $375,000 and the County $125,000.
2. Culvert Replacement Project at SE 02-64-20 W4M
Near Ellscott, the structure carrying Township Road 640 over Flat Creek will be replaced. The total estimated cost for the project is $975,000, with the Province contributing $731,250 and the County $243,750.
3. Culvert Replacement Project at SE 13-68-18 W4M
Near Grassland, the structure carrying Township Road 682 over Pine Creek will be replaced. The total estimated cost for the project is $1,050,000, with the Province contributing $787,500 and the County $262,500.

The total cost of the three projects is estimated at $2,525,000. The projects are expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
