Athabasca County crews continue to respond to road and flooding issues across the County.
While water levels in some areas began to recede last week, the snowfall late last week combined with the current warm temperatures has caused water levels to rise again in creeks and along roads due to snow melt.
Snow drifting late last week and over the weekend also caused a number of road blockages. Crews have been working to clear and grade these areas, and we are nearly caught up on opening affected roads.
A number of bridges and roads remain closed due to flooding or extremely poor road conditions. Many roads that remain open have sustained damage but are passable with caution. Please slow down, watch for changing conditions, and obey all posted signage.
County crews are assessing all closed and damaged roads for immediate repairs. Where damage can be addressed through grading, that work is being completed. More extensive repairs, including resurfacing roads with new aggregate material, are being organized and will begin as soon as possible.
Residents may also notice County staff using drones to survey problem areas and major flooding locations. This work is being done for documentation purposes and to support potential Provincial relief funding applications.

Please use caution when travelling on County roads. Avoid flooded areas whenever possible, do not drive through water-covered roads, and be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to report any new road or flooding concerns to the County office at 780-675-2404.
We thank the public for their patience and understanding as crews work to return roads to normal conditions.
